San Francisco Decorator’s Showcase
San Francisco
2024
A fearless collector’s inner sanctum, where modernist elegance meets playful antiques and a milky, textured palette. Inspired by Peggy Guggenheim’s bold spirit, the space is designed to live with art, not just display it. A zesty gallery-like main room is balanced by an intimate meditation space for quiet restoration.
Designed as a fully immersive interior, the room balances modernist clarity with the warmth of antiques and patina. Textured plaster walls bring depth and craftsmanship, creating a luminous backdrop that supports both bold works and quieter pieces. The palette stays intentionally restrained, allowing shape, material, and composition to do the heavy lifting.
Art placement guided the architecture of the room. Sightlines, negative space, and lighting were calibrated to give each work breathing room, while still allowing the collection to feel lived with rather than staged. Furnishings and objects were selected for contrast and character, creating a layered mix of clean modern forms and timeless details.
The primary room functions as a gallery for daily life, designed for gathering, conversation, and looking closely. Just beyond, a meditation space shifts the energy toward softness and stillness, offering a private retreat with a calmer palette and fewer visual demands. Together, the two spaces create an interior rhythm that supports both outward expression and inward restoration.
